Sgraffito
Sgraffito decoration involves carving through contasting layers of colour. Coats of stained liquid clay are applied to the body of the pot and when dry are carved away to reveal the clay beneath. This leaves the bold textured imagery associated with this technique. Not dissimilar to wood or lino cut prints, you are left with a backgound showing the tooling marks which give a dynamism to the piece.
